Following handover of the estate Management Company by Kier to the owners on July 9th 2015, responsibility for general maintenance became the responsibility of the newly appointed owner Directors.
Each owner Director fulfils the following functions:
Brian Gould – Estate infrastructure maintenance
Adam Sturman – Land Management & Ecology
Patrick Annibal – Health & Safety
Geoff Goddard – Administration backup & playpark maintenance
John Edser – Company Secretary, administration & communications
In order to keep maintenance costs to a minimum, all administration and some non-specialist maintenance work is handled by the Directors aided by other willing owners.
Grass cutting and hedge trimming will remain sub-contracted to Lincolnshire Landscapes who also carry out pond and ditch clearing work. The majority of remedial work left to the Management Company by Kier in 2015 was cleared in 2017, the greatest cost being almost £26,000 spent on tree surgery during the year.
In 2021 just over £17,000 was spent on trees in 2021 with the next full tree survey and surgery planned for the winter of 2025. Other maintenance costs in 2021, apart from the normal costs of grass cutting and hedge trimming, included the preparation and seeding of approximately 50% of the central newt habitat to create a wildflower meadow. In addition, major work was undertaken to clear the ponds of unwanted weed and the coppicing of trees around the smaller pond to provide shelter for wildlife. Work undertaken by the directors, aided by some residents, included ditch clearance work, repair of the culvert under Fern Drive (reimbursed by Kier), planting of decorative trees and bulbs, fence repairs, road gutter clearance and clearance of some Himalayan Balsom from the woods.
